Job Summary Summary The Pharmacy Intern YR1 supports the mission of the Pharmacy department by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. Develops a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in carrying out all duties associated with delivering medications to patient care areas. Uses related computer software and gains experience in the interpretation, verification, order entry, compounding, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies. The Pharmacy Intern may also be involved in the dissemination of drug information.

Participate in interdisciplinary rounds.
Work collaboratively with the treatment team to maximize individual patient outcomes.
Counsel patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications and devices.
Monitor medication therapies by performing profile reviews, interpreting laboratory values, and ensuring drug regimens are consistent with medication use guidelines and protocols.
Assist Pharmacists in gathering information to advise nurses, physicians, and patients on the proper and safe use of medications.
Fill and deliver medications requested by nursing units and as needed for Pyxis automated dispensing machines after a complete check by a registered Pharmacist.
Provide excellent customer service via telephone, in person at the Pharmacy window, and while rounding on patient care areas.
Adhere to HIPAA regulations regarding confidentiality and patient privacy.
