About the role

Operate and maintain flow cytometers, including calibration, troubleshooting, and quality control of data. Assist research users in designing individualized flow cytometry panels and running samples.

Department Overview The Oregon National Primate Center (ONPRC) is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, and 2-mile perimeter walking path.

The Viral Immunology Core (VIC) of the Oregon National Primate Research Center, located at the West Campus of OHSU, is looking for a flow cytometry technician.

The VIC currently houses two BD FACS Symphonies, one Cytek Northern Lights, and one BD Fusion cell sorter.

Function/Duties of Position The primary responsibility of this position is to participate in a small team that operates the VIC’s flow cytometers, and assists users with any troubleshooting they may require.

These responsibilities include general maintenance, calibration, trouble-shooting, and simple repair of the cytometers (QA), and quality control (QC) of the data before and during data acquisition.

Work with users to create flow cytometry panels for their individualized research needs.

Quality Assurance: Routine maintenance of cytometers, calibration (compensation matrix, CS&T).

Coordinate repairs of the flow cytometers, either internally or with the cytometer manufacturer.

Reagent ordering and billing.

Run samples for the users on the flow cytometers.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications Master's Degree in relevant field AND 3 years of relevant experience; OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND 5 years of relevant experience.

Must be comfortable using computers (Mac, PC).

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of flow cytometry and experience in biohazard laboratory. Past laboratory experience. Experience with designing flow cytometry antibody panels. Additional Details This advertised position is full-time (1.0 FTE), in-person at the ONPRC, and during regular business hours. Working Conditions Willingness to work with pathogens potentially dangerous to humans. Willingness to work in Biosafety Level 2, 2+ and 3 facilities. Willingness and ability to work flexible hours (possibly including nights and weekends). Physical Demands and Equipment Ability to carry and lift 35-50 lbs. Ability to stand for 5-8 hours a day. Ability to work 4-6 hours using a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) and/or N95 respirator. Ability to work on a computer up to 8 hours a day. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation. Employees may be required to be vaccinated with, but not limited to the following. (compliance is required for employment): Hepatitis B, Measles, and Tetanus. A TB screen with occupational health will be required every 6 to 12 months.

Requirements

Requires a Master's degree with 3 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience in a relevant field. Candidates must be comfortable working in Biosafety Level 2 and 3 facilities with potentially dangerous pathogens.
