About the role

Provide intermediate level nursing care for medical and surgical pediatric patients ranging from newborns to 18 years old. Facilitate care for complex patients including those with organ system failures, chronic ventilation, and post-operative needs.

Department Overview The PIMC provides Intermediate level care for Medical/Surgical patients 0-18 years of age, excluding obstetric patients.

Populations served include non-ICU Neurosurgical, Video EEG and spectrum scan Peritoneal Dialysis, Chronic trach/ventilated patients, Select Hyperbilirubinemia, Select Cardiac Surgery, and Research Patients, complex post –op patients including orthopedic spine patients, cranis, and bladder augmentations.

The patients cared for on the PIMC involve multiple organ system failures and range from 1 day old to 18 years old (sometimes up to 22 years old if still followed by pediatric physicians).PIMC admits from a variety of locations and service lines.

The PIMC also facilitates patient transfers within Doernbecher who require intermediate level of nursing care that is not available on their generally assigned units.

For example, patients on chronic home ventilation admitted for routine urology surgery.

Required Qualifications PALS Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) or Certified Neurosciences(CNRN) within 2 years of hire BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.

ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.

Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License BLS from AHA required.

New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.

Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) Additional Details Length of Orientation – New Graduate Nurse External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week. Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply. Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week. Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. Requires a current Oregon State Registered Nurse License, BLS certification, and either an ADN or BSN degree. Candidates must obtain PALS or CPN/CNRN certification within two years of hire.
