About the role

Responsible for preparing, cleaning, and maintaining endoscopes and equipment to ensure safe and optimal patient care. Coordinates procedure room readiness and adheres to strict aseptic techniques and sterilization protocols.

Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique and provides safe, optimal care to each patient based on his or her individual needs. Manages equipment and scopes for the procedures, cleaning and maintaining endoscopes and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant certification (or similar healthcare training)
  • Endoscopy Procedure room experience preferred
  • Experience or training in the disinfection/sterilization process of endoscopes preferred
  • Essential Functions
  • Adheres to the endoscopy procedure requirements and technician functions approved for the Surgery Center
  • Assemble necessary endoscopes and equipment for scheduled procedures
  • Inspect equipment and endoscopes for proper working condition
  • Check procedure room for cleanliness and availability of supplies at the beginning of the day
  • Accurately comprehend, interpret, and respond to verbal orders and direction
  • Communicate information about the patient's status to other persons responsible for care of the patient
  • Apply the principles of aseptic technique and procedure room protocols to competently perform endoscopy technician functions
  • Follow principles of aseptic technique in opening sterile packages and performing duties in preparation for the procedure
  • Arrange endoscope according to the routine documented for the scheduled procedure
  • Maintain availability of endoscopes and supplies to avoid delays during the procedure
  • Report any observed or suspected break in sterile/aseptic technique and take appropriate action
  • Observe safety measures in patient care activities
  • Performs required maintenance of endoscopes, supplies and equipment by adhering to cleaning, care, utilization, and sterilization procedures as directed
  • Handle equipment and endoscopes correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety
  • Assist in maintaining adequate supplies in the procedure room for immediate access during procedure
  • Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed
  • Maintain documentation to verify disinfection/sterilization of equipment and endoscopes
  • Maintain standards to provide safe, clean, and orderly environment

Demonstrates ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, occasional overhead, and low reaching, bending, and the ability to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Patient care activities require the ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. constantly, up to 40 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. rarely. May be staffed in other ASC areas as needed depending on the schedule and facility needs.

Requirements
