About the role

The Program Specialist provides direct patient care, including crisis intervention and the maintenance of a safe, therapeutic environment. They are also responsible for implementing treatment programs, staff training, and managing the daily schedule.

Responsibilities

  • The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an intensive five-day treatment program serving children and adolescents ages 5 through 17 who are experiencing emotional or behavioral problems.
  • Patients follow a personalized treatment plan for therapy and medication management.
  • They are only required to be in the hospital during their scheduled PHP hours.
  • JOB SUMMARY: The Program Specialist provides direct patient care.
  • Primary responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and activities of daily living.
  • The Program Specialist is additionally responsible for the implantation of programs, training and the schedule.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, pre-adolescents, adolescents and adult patients.

Education

High School Diploma required. Associate's Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Masters Degree in Psychology or related field strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 4-5 years experience working with a psychiatric patient population preferred. A minimum of 1 year prior experience with behavioral management of acute child/adolescent individuals required.
  • Licensure/Certification: BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association and CPI certification required upon completion of orientation. BLS Provider and CPI certifications must remain active throughout employment.

Knowledge

Must possess knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and behavior management, CPI leadership skills, diagnostic understanding behind behaviors often exhibited within milieu and CPR training. Candidates must have a high school diploma, with a degree in psychology preferred, and at least one year of experience in behavioral management for acute child or adolescent populations. BLS and CPI certifications are required upon completion of orientation.
