The Allegheny General Cardiac ICU is 16 beds with all single occupancy rooms. The Unit provides high acuity medical treatment for optimization of the heart and sees a patient population including cardiogenic shock, post-cardiac arrests, STEMIs, advanced heart failure, and electrophysiology. Nurses are trained to provide complex cardiac care to patients with Swan-Ganz Catheters, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), Impella Devices, Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), as well as pre heart transplant care. The unit is proud to hold its Advanced Heart Failure accreditation, LVAD accreditation, transplant accreditation, Pulmonary Hypertension certification, and Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification (C4).
