About the Position

The Computed Tomography (CT) technologist performs CT procedures per physicians’ orders and produces images according to Radiology Department policies and procedures. The CT technologist demonstrates the Reid Health Mission, Vision, Values, and Key Service Behaviors. The technologist routinely demonstrates a strong commitment to Reid’s behavioral standards by serving as a role model to others. The CT technologist takes ownership and holds co-workers accountable. The technologist actively promotes behavioral standards to others by acknowledging good performance and coaching or intervening when performance needs improvement. The CT technologist makes suggestions on how service can be improved. Overview of Responsibilities Patient Care: Accurately evaluates requests for CT procedures. Obtains patient history and symptoms. Performs CT procedures per physicians’ orders in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures. Provides care appropriate to the age-specific needs of the patients served. Provides explanation and instruction to patients regarding CT procedures. Demonstrates Reid’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Key Service Behaviors (KSBs) at all times in interactions with patients. Demonstrates effective communication with patients and families. Performs patient transportation as necessary. Initiates emergency measures as necessary. Administers contrast material in accordance with individual competency, type, and age of the patient. Properly performs venipuncture, placement of IV catheters, and use of VeinViewer when indicated. Accurately performs appropriate documentation. Considers the whole patient including safety, comfort, age of the patient, spiritual, cultural and religious practices, emotional needs/barriers, desire and motivation, physical and/or cognitive limitations, and language barriers in the implementation of care. Equipment/Procedures: Competently operates the CT scanners. Competently operates the contrast injectors. Competently performs CT imaging according to Radiology Department protocols. Competently performs CT guidance for invasive procedures such as biopsies and abscess drainages. Properly processes images. Has knowledge of equipment failures and the proper procedures to follow. Makes appropriate use of accessory equipment. Makes appropriate use of PAC’s and Epic systems. Properly completes documentation in Epic. Competently operates iStat analyzer. Safety Responsibilities: Follows radiation safety policies and guidelines. Takes responsibility for personal radiation safety and exposure monitoring. Appropriately uses radiation protection devices. Demonstrates understanding of hospital emergency code responsibilities. Follows infection control policies and procedures. Demonstrates awareness of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and their significance. Follows Radiology Department safety policies and procedures. Operates equipment in a safe manner to prevent injuries to personnel and patients. This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and can be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management deems necessary. Education & Experience Education Required: Completion and graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology. Education Preferred: Computed Tomography (CT) certification. Experience Required: English competency. Competency-based skills appropriate for the job. Experience Preferred: Epic experience, Previous experience with cross-sectional imaging. Licensure & Certification Licensure: Current Indiana State Department of Health License for radiation machine operator.

Certifications

Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification. Successful completion of Reid Health and Radiology Department orientation.

Requirements

Requires graduation from an accredited radiologic technology school and a current Indiana State Department of Health License. ARRT certification and BLS CPR certification are also required.
