Job Description: – Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA I)

Location- 1 Opening in West Pasco/ 1 Opening in East Pasco Florida

Hours- PRN(As-Needed)

General Description

The Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA I) is responsible for providing advanced chairside support to dentists while helping deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality dental care. This position performs expanded functions during restorative and surgical procedures, prepares treatment rooms, takes radiographs and digital scans, educates patients on oral health, and ensures a positive patient experience.

The EFDA works collaboratively with dentists and the dental care team to support clinical excellence while promoting Premier Community HealthCare's mission of providing accessible, compassionate care to the communities we serve.

  • Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced chairside assistance during restorative, prosthetic, and oral surgery procedures
  • Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment according to established clinical standards
  • Assist with impressions, evacuation, tissue retraction, cementation, hemostasis, and other expanded functions within scope of practice
  • Take dental radiographs and digital scans while following all safety and infection control protocols
  • Prepare and mix dental materials for clinical procedures
  • Verify completion of patient consent forms prior to treatment
  • Track laboratory cases and process related documentation
  • Review patient charts for completeness, referrals, radiographs, and treatment documentation
  • Communicate scheduling delays and assist with patient flow throughout the clinic
  • Assist chairside during administration of nitrous oxide when appropriately certified
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
  • Maintain sterilization of instruments, operatories, and equipment in accordance with infection prevention standards
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Participate in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance (QI/QA) initiatives and support departmental goals
  • Support community outreach activities and perform other duties as assigned
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of dental and medical terminology and electronic medical record (EMR) documentation
  • Understanding of dental procedures requiring referrals and pre-authorizations
  • Ability to perform expanded dental assisting functions safely and accurately
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional customer service with empathy and compassion for diverse patient populations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, and team members
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current Florida Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification required
  • Graduate of an American Dental Association (ADA)-accredited Dental Assisting Program
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Analgesia monitoring certification preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Epic certification and complete annual compliance training
  • Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. regularly and 30–50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to travel between Premier Community HealthCare sites as needed
  • Direct exposure to computer screens
  • Possible exposure to contagious or infectious diseases

This position requires a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
