Job Summary $750.00 Sign on Bonus is being offered to eligible new employees hired in our PCA positions.

Schedule

Days (7am-7pm) and Nights (7pm-7am) Rotating weekend shifts every month. Holiday rotating schedule.

The Neuroscience unit is seeking a Patient Care Assistant, with day, and night shift availability, and to provide coverage on rotating weekends.

Lunder 7 is a 32- bed unit that regularly admits patients with strokes, head and spinal trauma, as well as general neuromedical and neurosurgical patients. The nursing staff is highly regarded by physicians and other interdisciplinary colleagues for their clinical expertise in caring for patients at every point on the adult healthcare continuum by providing holistic, complex, and compassionate care.

Ideal applicants considered for this permanent opportunity should be able to provide full-time coverage, including weekends.

Summary Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Essential Functions

Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.

Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.

Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.

Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.

Assists with admitting and discharging patients.

Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.

Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively

Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.

Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.

Qualifications

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Basic Life Support [BLS] Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [National Certification] Experience Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
