Job Description

  • Provides pharmaceutical care (PC) through drug therapy assessment, planning, implementation and monitoring that is consistent with established standards of practice. Consults with Physicians and other caregivers when appropriate to make drug therapy recommendations. Performs duties related to medication use process. Includes medication order review and processing; review of computer order entry accuracy; drug therapy problem identification; adverse drug reaction prevention; performing and monitoring drug distribution for aseptic preparation, accuracy and timeliness. Provides leadership, direction and support to the Pharmacy team as appropriate. Prioritizes tasks, delegates to co-workers (pharmacists and technicians) and monitors medication use processes to provide all medication needs in a timely, courteous and customer-oriented manner. Oversees and validates the accuracy of tasks performed by technical support personnel as indicated (up to and including four technicians at one time). Provides drug information for Physicians, Nurses and other professionals. Provides patient education (medication counseling) according to established departmental practices and legal requirements. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and behaviors that are conducive to a cooperative work environment. Consistently and effectively communicates with all customers: patients, professional staff members, employees and coworkers. Anticipates "customer" needs and responds appropriately in an effective and courteous manner. Participates in quality improvement activities by identifying areas for departmental and hospital improvement, assisting in implementation and by providing feedback to assist in the evaluation and subsequent improvements related to performance improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have: Current licensure by the Maine Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacist or eligible for the same through reciprocation, required Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D), preferred At least 1 year of hospital pharmacy experience in unit-dose and IV Admixtures and drug Therapy monitoring, preferred Previous experience with computerized patient registration/medical information system Ability and aptitude to adapt to using computer keyboards and terminal Effective interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills A high level of mental alertness
  • Proficiency in a suite of Microsoft Office applications

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current Maine Board of Pharmacy license, with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) preferred. At least one year of hospital pharmacy experience in unit-dose and IV admixtures is preferred.
