About the role

The Laboratory Assistant performs venous and capillary blood collection and processes specimens for analysis and reference testing. They are also responsible for maintaining documentation for accrediting agencies and performing waived or moderately complex testing under supervision.

Position Summary

The Laboratory Assistant process outpatient test requests. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will: Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and process specimens for analysis and reference testing. With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing. May perform chain-of-custody drug collections and various other support services for the laboratory as assigned. Maintain required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies. Perform duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements. Support the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma, Equivalent, or higher Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended Preferred: 6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency is preferred:

National Healthcare Association (NHA) --Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb), American Society of Clinical Pathologists-- Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)], International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS), National Phlebotomy Association (NPA), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE), National Phlebotomy Solutions (NPS), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or another national certification as approved by Laboratory Service Line leadership.
