About the role

The Respiratory Therapist evaluates and treats patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders through oxygen therapy and ventilator management. They are responsible for monitoring lung function and implementing therapeutic interventions to improve patients' functional well-being.

These roles focus on helping patients recover from injuries, illnesses, or surgeries and improve their physical, emotional, and functional well-being. Involves assessing, planning, and providing therapeutic interventions to enhance patients' abilities to perform daily activities and achieve their rehabilitation goals.

These roles are responsible for evaluating, treating, and caring for patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders.

Respiratory therapists provide oxygen therapy, manage ventilators, conduct breathing exercises, and monitor lung function to ensure patients receive optimal respiratory care.

Individual contributors with responsibility in a clinical discipline or specialty.

Typically involves diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients, and often include face-to-face interactions with patients.

May also spend some time designing and implementing clinical programs, policies, and services using specialized knowledge and skills.

Specialty license or certification required which is acquired through advanced education, training and/or experience.

Communicates information that requires little explanation or interpretation​ ​ MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy program.

Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (BSRC) preferred.

  • License/Certification: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential within 6 months of hire Licensed to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy program and hold a CRT certification, with an RRT credential required within six months. A valid license to practice in Virginia and AHA BLS certification are also mandatory.
