About the role

The Medical Assistant supports physicians and clinicians by assisting with patient exams, procedures, and recording vital signs. They are also responsible for managing patient flow, scheduling tests, and handling pre-authorizations.

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Assistant to support our offices located in Newport News.

Benefits

M/D/V, Life Ins., 401(k) Compensation Range: $16.88 - $34.65. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as, relevant experience, education, certifications, licensure, and skills that align with the role.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment including exams and procedures.
  • Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e. exams, and procedures.
  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limit to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures May schedule patient tests, procedures, and hospital admissions and may schedule appointments to follow up on test results as needed Arranges for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed Performs other administrative duties as requested by supervisor or physician

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience required, preferably in a multi-physician practice Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate up to date knowledge of the profession and industry CMA strongly preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel between sites in your region, as needed PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma and at least one year of experience, preferably in a multi-physician practice. A Medical Assistant certificate or CMA certification is strongly preferred.
