About the role

Prepares and stains routine surgical pathology specimens, including embedding, cutting, and accessioning. Maintains laboratory equipment and supports overall laboratory goals through teamwork and process improvement.

Minimum Education

Associate's Degree or equivalent hours in a related biological/chemical science from an accredited college or university.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification

None.

Work Experience

0 - 6 months laboratory experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

PC skills needed for efficient computer utilization. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize work in an effective and efficient manner.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Embeds, cuts and stains pathology specimens under direction of a Histologist. Receives and accessions specimens. Prepares frozen sections under direct supervision of a Histologist. Maintains equipment and work areas. Supports laboratory goals by demonstrating teamwork, service excellence, adhering to established guidelines and policies and looking for ways to improve processes.

Decision Making

Independent judgment in making decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision.

Working Relationships

Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
