About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant will gather patient data, assess vital signs, and provide direct clinical care in a fast-paced urgent care setting. They will also assist providers during examinations, administer medications, and perform medical scribing duties.

We are searching for a part-time Certified Medical Assistant for Urgent Care — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will gather information, assess and provide direct care to patients. You will work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to render age-appropriate care.

Clinic Hours of Operation (Open 7 Days a Week)

• Monday–Friday: 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM Saturday–Sunday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Assists in the collection of patient/family data that may include biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per practice protocol.

Collects and documents vital signs, BMI, height/weight and reason for visit.

Prepares patient for examination per practice protocol.

Assists provider, as directed, during treatments, examinations and testing as directed by provider and within scope of practice.

Completes treatments as directed by provider and within scope of practice

Administers medication and immunizations as directed by physician per practice protocol.

Documents administration of medication and immunizations in the medical record per practice protocol.

Reports all medication and immunization errors to supervisor immediately after becoming aware of the error.

Acts as scribe for provider.

Provides patient/family education as instructed by the physician or practice protocol.

Assesses patient’s eligibility for referral by verifying coverage with payer prior to initiating referral.

Documents eligibility in electronic medical record per practice protocol.

Screens presenting patient complaint per practice protocol.

Screens phone calls per practice protocol and within scope of practice standards.

Verifies provider order and patient per practice protocol.

Collects and processes specimen according to manufacturer’s instructions and using proper technique.

Other Graduation from a medical assisting or emergency medical technician program Required

  • 1 year related experience
  • BLS - Cert-Basic Life Support Required alonger with one of the following:
  • EMT - Emergency Medical Techn Texas Department of State Health Services Or
  • EMT-A - Advanced EMT Texas Department of State Health Services Or
  • EMT-B - Emergency Medical Techn-Basic Texas Department of State Health Services Or
  • EMT-I - Emergency Medical Techn-Interm Texas Department of State Health Services Or
  • EMT-P - Emergency Medical Techn-Parame Texas Department of State Health Services Or
  • LIC PAR - Lic-Paramedic Texas Department of State Health Services Or
  • NCMA - National Cert Med Assistant National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Or
  • NRCMA - Nat Reg Cert Med Assistant International Association of Health Professionals (NAHP) Or
  • RMA-AAH : American Allied Health American Allied Health Or
  • RMA-AAMP : American Association of Medical Personnel American Association of Medical Personnel Or
  • RMA-AMT : American Medical Technologist American Medical Technologist Or
  • RMA-ARMA : American Registry of Medical Assistants

Texas Children’s Urgent Care offers high-quality, efficient and affordable after-hours patient care in nine convenient community locations across the greater Houston area. Texas Children’s Urgent Care has also expanded to serve the children and families of Austin, Texas, with its first community location in South Austin. Staffed by board-certified pediatricians who have privileges at Texas Children’s Hospital, our Urgent Care team can diagnose and treat a wide variety of common pediatric ailments, illnesses and conditions, including: asthma, strep throat, fever, minor burns, influenza, ear infections, allergic reactions and more. We also provide procedures such as antibiotic injections, breathing treatments, fracture care and splinting, IV (intravenous) fluids, lab services, laceration repair and x-rays on-site.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma and graduation from a medical assisting or EMT program with at least one year of related experience. A BLS certification and a valid state or national medical assistant/EMT certification are required.
