Summary of Job Purpose: To perform and deliver patient care activities and related non-professional services for assigned hospital patients as directed by registered professional nurses or licensed practical nurses.
Population served based on scope of services in the department.
Job Qualifications: Education: High School graduate or equivalency License: BLS within 30 days of hire.
Experience: Nursing home or acute care experience preferred
Provides daily physical and emotional care to patients; i.e. bathing, toileting, feeding, ambulating, etc. Answers call lights in timely fashion Assists licensed personnel as directed. Accuracy in obtaining vs., ht, wt, i/o, and other procedures as per competency. Maintains a safe and clean environment, utilizing appropriate infection control techniques. (patient room, utility room, unit) Recognizes when to seek help from licensed personnel, i.e., .changes in patient condition Transports patients as needed. Provides input to the interdisciplinary health care team. Acts as a preceptor to all new Nurse Assistants and orientee Nurse Assistants. Demonstrates use of appropriate body mechanics. Displays analytical and basic problem solving skills. Communicates problems to manager as appropriate. Follows all time and attendance policies. Attends educational programs provided by the Hospital or those which are outside the Hospital that are related to job responsibilities. Working Conditions Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity Occupational: Significant occupational risk Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
