Job Description: Summary:

Provides technical expertise in the outpatient pharmacy.Supports the pharmacy by providing assistance to the outpatient staff pharmacists with the processing of prescription orders along with preparation and dispensing of patient medications within the three outpatient pharmacies. Assists in training of new staff.

Job Description

Essential Functions

Accepts prescription, establishes billing/patient charges, documents patient’s allergies correctly, interprets and enters information regarding the outpatient prescription into the computer system. Prepares and packages injectables and oral medication for outpatient use. Independently resolves on-line adjudication problems with Third Party Payors, without pharmacist intervention. Extemporaneously compounds medication which is not commercially available (i.e. suspensions, ointments, liquids, capsules, powders, etc.) under the supervision of a pharmacist. Replenishes pharmacy stock area and notifies pharmacist or inventory coordinators of any problems or concerns. Assists in orientation and training for new Outpatient Pharmacy Technicians and interns. Ensures that the trainees are competent to function in the outpatient pharmacy area.

Education Requirement

As required by listed licensure and/or certification requirement. Bachelor's Degree, preferred.

Licensure Requirement

Registered with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (Registered or Certified Pharmacy Technician), required.

Certifications

Certification as a pharmacy technician or documented passing score on certification exam prior to start date (PTCB, ExCPT), required.

Skills

Demonstrated skills in algebra by passing score on math competency administered on site.

Experience

Two years of experience as a pharmacy technician (preferably in a setting appropriate for the position, e.g. outpatient, hospital, etc), required.
