Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis. FLSA Status Non-ExemptJob Role Summary The Bereavement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the care for families who have experienced a pregnancy and/or newborn loss. The role includes management of inpatient services offered to the family and outpatient grief support. This position is also responsible for tracking the documentation provided by the OBGYN team of providers regarding pregnancy losses that result from medical terminations, stillbirths, miscarriages and elective pregnancy terminations complications. The Bereavement Coordinator, through collaboration with the OBGYN provider teams ensures that the legal documentation is completed and submitted appropriately and in accordance with the Indiana State Law regarding Termination Pregnancy Reports (TPR’s). Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Ensures accurate and thorough documentation and timely submission of Termination Pregnancy Reports (TPR’s) to Indiana State Department of Health. This thorough tracking of all of the required legal documentation ensures that Eskenazi Health maintains compliance with the required TPR reports, along with remaining in good standing with the Department of Health, and the office of the Attorney General regarding the care of all pregnancy losses.
  • Provide support to families experiencing a pregnancy or newborn loss through contact with inpatients and follow up grief support for outpatients
  • Facilitate monthly grief support group
  • Provide support to staff, including education on grief-related issues and bereavement care
  • Write and maintain unit policies specific to bereavement care
  • Provide orientation to bereavement care/services to new staff and residents
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with health department regulations pertaining to fetal death
  • Maintain active participation in Coalition of Bereavement Coordinators, Indianapolis, including role in RTS training for area hospitals that include Eskenazi Health
  • Produce and maintain Healing Hearts Resource Guide for staff
  • Develop appropriate grief support literature and update as needed
  • Offer follow up phone support to patients who have experienced loss
  • Maintain inventory for Healing Hearts sanctuary and foster relationships with donors who provide memento supplies
  • Work with risk management team as requested/needed
  • Continue personal education through grief support trainings
  • Maintain 24 hour “on call” status for notifications of losses, answering questions, and visiting families inpatient as needed during off hours
  • Participate in community FIMR (Fetal Infant Mortality Review) board
  • Provide Antenatal support to families whom carry a pregnancy with a known life-threatening disorder
  • Assist Social Work as needed to coordinate at home hospice care
  • Make referrals to Kate Cares Stillbirth Assessment Program and assist with gathering data for the reviews Job Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of bedside experience in obstetrical nursing
  • Successful completion of an accredited nursing program, BSN preferred
  • Currently licensed as a registered nurse by the Health Professions Bureau in Indiana
  • Completion of RTS (Resolve through Sharing) bereavement training Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrates ability to apply knowledge of Indiana code and statute in the facilitation and processing of required legal documentation surrounding the termination of pregnancies.

  • Demonstrates time management and ability to prioritize care

Requirements

Requires a registered nurse license in Indiana and a minimum of 2 years of bedside experience in obstetrical nursing. Completion of Resolve through Sharing (RTS) bereavement training is required, with a BSN preferred.
