About the role

Responsible for the daily processing, analysis, and reporting of molecular diagnostic specimens. This includes performing instrument maintenance, validating new methods, and maintaining quality assurance programs.

Job summary

The Molecular Diagnostics Technologist II position is designed for a knowledgeable and experienced laboratory professional with a minimum of three years of experience as a certified Medical Technologist (MT), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), or Specialist in Molecular Technology (MB), or an individual with appropriate training and experience qualified to perform high complexity testing under CLIA 42CFR493.1489. This individual is responsible for day to day specimen processing, analysis, and results reporting. The person in this position is expected to possess the skills necessary to perform the essential functions of a laboratory technologist independently and with minimal supervision.

Job responsibilities

Essential functions

Receives and process specimens according to department protocols.

Assists the Supervisor, Manager and Director with administrative functions such as ordering supplies and maintaining inventory.

Produces, interprets and reports accurate and precise test results.

Identifies and correct problems that may adversely affect test performance or result reporting of patient samples.

Communicates pertinent section information/issues to supervisor, manager or other appropriate individuals.

Performs instrument maintenance and method troubleshooting.

Validates new methods.

Completes CAP surveys.

Assists in documentation and maintaining effective department QA/QC programs and monitors.

Performs within the productivity expectations as set forth by current departmental guidelines.

Exercises all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.

Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.

Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate Policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.

Addresses Client Concerns.

Non-Essential functions

Work with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & licensure

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Molecular Technology, or equivalent education and training in clinical, chemical, physical, or biological science.

National certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Medical Technologist (MT), Clinical Laboratory Specialist (CLS) or Specialist in Molecular Technology (MB) is preferred.

Tennessee State Laboratory License is preferred.

Must maintain appropriate continuing education for certification and licensure as applicable.

Experience

Three or more years of job-related experience preferred.

Computer proficiency preferred.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Medical or Molecular Technology or a related science. Preference is given to candidates with ASCP certification, a Tennessee State Laboratory License, and at least three years of experience.
