Position summary

Adhering to System Values, Service Excellence and Standards of Behavior, The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for the treatment of patients with orthopedic, neurological, complex-medical and other diagnoses that affect a person’s strength, range of motion, endurance and overall function. The Staff Physical Therapy Assistant will utilize therapeutic exercise, modalities, and activities to achieve the highest function possible, working within the acute inpatient, SNF/swing and outpatient levels of care. This position works closely with medical staff, clinical staff, and support staff as well as with staff of any institution in the NCH system or which UCVH provides contracted Physical Therapy. Age of populations served: Pediatric (1-12years), Adolescence 13-17 years, Adult 18-64 years, and Geriatrics 65 and above.

Essential qualifications

Education

• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program as determined by the American Physical Therapy Association or have successfully passed the state exam.

Certification

  • All employees and contracted staff will have either successful completion of an American Heart Association
  • accredited course in Basic Life Support (BLS), or ACLS and PALS combined. (for clinical staff), Heartsaver CPR AED (for nonclinical staff), and renewal on a regular basis.

Licensure

  • Must hold a current Physical Therapy Assistant license from the New Hampshire Office of Allied Health Professions or be eligible for licensure.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Skills

  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Excellence in customer service and communication skills.
  • Competence in computer use.

Work Experience

• Previous experience as Physical Therapy Assistant preferred.

Essential functions

1. Responsible for the safety, care and well-being of patients during treatment sessions.

1. Responsible for implementing a written treatment plan developed by a licensed Physical Therapist in accordance with the State of New Hampshire Office of Allied Health Professions standards of practice.

1. Responsible for maintaining current progress notes within the patient’s medical record.

1. Follows treatment guidelines/goals set forth in the developed plan of care (e.g., frequency/duration of treatment sessions will concur with treatment plan, and therapy activities will reflect goals).

1. Observes client’s progress and response to treatment and reports findings to Physical Therapist.

1. Responsible for maintaining the Rehabilitation Services work area reasonably neat and organized.

1. Attends meetings as designated by the Rehabilitation Services Manager

1. Manages time effectively to ensure that deadlines are met and that personal priorities support organizational objectives; performs all other duties as assigned.

1. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Candidates must have an Associate degree from an accredited PTA program and a valid New Hampshire Physical Therapy Assistant license. BLS certification and a valid driver's license are also required.
