We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgical Technician to support our surgical team in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate patient care. This vital role ensures the operating room runs smoothly and efficiently, directly contributing to positive surgical outcomes. Our surgical techs at Presbyterian Hospital assist with Peds, ENT, General, Neuro, ortho and vascular surgeries. There are 16 OR rooms and on average see about 40-65 cases a day. Additional Job Duties: Provide assistance and support to surgeons during procedures by preparing and handling instruments and equipment Maintain a sterile field and uphold strict infection control standards Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to facilitate seamless operations Ensure the operating room is safe, organized, and equipped for each procedure Collaborate with nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to maximize patient safety and efficiency Demonstrates superior knowledge of advanced surgical equipment and advanced surgical instrumentation. Demonstrates leadership abilities. Demonstrates skills in organizing and coordinating the effective use of personnel and materials. Develops, organizes, and delivers continuing education topics. Applies knowledge related to emergency situations. Demonstrates critical thinking skills in relation to anticipating the needs of the patient and the surgeon. Performs instrument counts prior to each procedure and maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments during the procedure. Secures and prepares all supplies and instruments required for surgical intervention before procedures. Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the OR. Prepares patient skin for surgical treatment. Position and re-position patient during surgery. Helps monitor patients during surgery. Provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase. Performs scrub functions. Ensures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source. Maintains current knowledge of anatomy/physiology and medications used intraoperatively. Keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops and publications. Follows all federal, state and departmental safety procedures.
HS Diploma or GED required. In addition to basic surgical procedures, demonstrates advanced knowledge and practice in broader scope of surgical procedures: ENT, Plastics, Eyes, Complex Breast, joint replacement and ortho/spine. Participate in the training/ precepting of new staff. HS Diploma or GED plus graduate of surgical technician certification from an accredited school or training program required. Sterile Processing Certification preferred Current BLS required. Familiarity with all surgical instruments and equipment. Working knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique. Minimum of one years experience in a hospital operating room or outpatient operating room setting. One year experience in sterile processing environment, hospital or clinic (medical or veterinary) required. We're all about well-being, starting with yours.
