About the role

Manages daily patient workloads in a nephrology setting, focusing on laboratory specimen processing and clinical support. Coordinates communication between patients, medical staff, and insurance providers while maintaining laboratory safety standards.

The Senior Medical Assistant/Lab Assistant will manage the daily workload which averages 35 to 40 patients per daily in a safe, efficient, and organized manner.

Lab Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting scheduled nurse visits.
  • Processing provider-requested laboratory tests and STAT requests.
  • Reviewing patient files for laboratory orders.
  • Handling specimen processing and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Preparing and packaging specimens for courier pickup.
  • Maintaining laboratory inventory by restocking supplies as needed.
  • Keeping the laboratory clean, organized, and compliant with safety and infection control standards.
  • Assisting with general laboratory workflow to ensure timely and efficient patient care.
  • The ideal candidate must be knowledgeable and proficient in all aspects of the Medical Assistant (MA) role, as they may be required to perform standard MA duties when needed to support the clinical team.

Medical Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, take appropriate vital signs, review current medications and record in medical record.
  • Coordinates, or serve as liaison, for administrative and clinical (based on scope of practice) support activities including facilities management, patient billing, utilization management, quality management, risk management, human resources, and payroll.
  • Coordinates communication between patients, family members, medical staff, administrative staff, insurance plans, and other departments.
  • Manages patient care flow and assist with monitoring CS-Link message pools and standard work.
  • Monitors their own workflow independently to meet the requirements of their position at a level of expertise that requires minimal direction.
  • Assists with tracking and overseeing department specific data.
  • Explains policies, procedures, or services to patients using clinical or administrative knowledge, based on scope of practice.
  • Sets up exam room/procedure rooms appropriately based on patient visit needs.
  • Sweeps clinical areas to monitor inventory based on standard work. Cleans/re-processes equipment and supplies based on standard work and department guidelines.
  • Addresses patient, physician, and staff concerns and resolve issues accordingly.
  • Provides assistance in QA measures for suites, including recording QC testing on designated equipment.
  • Provides assistance and direct patient inquiries or complaints to appropriate medical staff members and follow up to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • May lead daily huddles and staff meetings and participates in performance improvement activities within the local assigned department.
  • Adheres to all infection prevention standards, department policies and guidelines.
  • Assists as a chaperone when needed upon completion of the required Chaperone Training.

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma, Medical Assistant certification, and BLS certification. A minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinical setting is required.
