Practice for this role

About the role

The Research Assistant will handle general laboratory duties including inventory and supply organization. They will also provide support for ongoing research projects focused on eukaryotic ribosome assembly.

Organization Overview

Ribosomes are molecular machines that catalyze protein synthesis in all cells.

While the principles of protein synthesis are relatively well understood, very little is known about how the ribosome itself is assembled.

Our lab is interested in elucidating the molecular mechanisms of eukaryotic ribosome assembly.

We are studying the initial events of this process by using a multidisciplinary approach that combines structural biology (X-ray crystallography and cry-EM) with biochemical, genetic, and cell biology techniques.

Structural and functional studies of early ribosome assembly intermediates are complemented by the biochemical characterization of multi-protein complexes.

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Research Assistant to support the department with laboratory duties and ongoing research projects. The Research Assistant will be directly supervised by a postdoc and a senior member of the department.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will interact well with other members of the laboratory, be well organized and interested in working in a high-quality research environment and collaborate closely with the principal investigator in running the laboratory. Responsibilities will include general laboratory duties such as inventory, organization and pick-up of supplies as well as supporting work for ongoing projects in the laboratory.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science required; advanced degree and an interest in structural biology or biochemistry strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Must be highly detail-oriented and focused, inherently motivated, and able to work as part of a team as well as a mentored atmosphere for a research project.
  • The Rockefeller University is an equal opportunity employer – veterans/individuals with disabilities.
  • Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to characteristics protected by applicable local, state or federal law, including but not limited to disability and protected veteran status.
  • The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
  • The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
