Overview

The Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) at Riverside Healthcare's Cancer Treatment Center in Kankakee, Illinois, plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive and compassionate care to patients undergoing cancer treatment.

The RN is responsible for providing specialized nursing care, including administering chemotherapy, managing symptoms, and educating patients and their families about treatment plans.

This role requires a dedicated and empathetic professional who can work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure the highest quality of care in a supportive environment.

Essential Duties Patient Care: Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other oncology treatments as prescribed, ensuring accurate dosage, proper technique, and patient safety.

Assessment & Monitoring: Conduct thorough assessments of patients before, during, and after treatment to monitor for adverse reactions, manage symptoms, and adjust care plans as needed.

Education & Support: Provide education to patients and their families regarding treatment plans, side effects, and post-treatment care, offering emotional support and guidance.

Collaboration

Work closely with oncology providers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment administration, patient responses, and any changes in condition.

Responsibilities

  • Preferred Experience Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a clinic or outpatient setting. Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems is desirable. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a patient-centered approach to care. Proficiency in using medical equipment and EHR software. Compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of care. Required Licensure/Education Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Illinois. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required *New Graduate RNs starting on or after 1/1/25 must earn Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 3 years of start date. Preferred Education Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Requirements
