The technician will assist with research studies, experiments, and assays, including data collection, equipment maintenance, and laboratory material preparation. Responsibilities also include animal handling, surgical preparation, tissue processing, and maintaining accurate research documentation.

Position Summary

Our laboratory is a translational neuroscience program studying stroke, neural circuit function, aging, and recovery.

Assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.

Job Description: Primary

Duties & Responsibilities

Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment. Assists with studies of stroke and recovery, including animal handling, perioperative preparation, post-operative monitoring, and behavioral testing. Performs tissue collection and processing, histology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and image acquisition. Performs techniques that may include viral-vector delivery, surgical preparation, and widefield optical (calcium) imaging. May contribute to design of experimental protocols and research. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. Maintains inventory and orders lab supplies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals. $16.92 - $26.44 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
