About the role

The Hospitalist is responsible for managing patient treatment from admission to discharge and coordinating care with specialists and ancillary staff. They will evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, perform medical procedures, and maintain accurate medical records.

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated and talented physician (Per Diem) to join our Hospitalist team with the Department of Medicine. We serve a culturally diverse population with a wide spectrum of medical conditions. A Hospitalist is a physician specializing in the comprehensive care of hospitalized patients. They manage patient treatment from admission to discharge, coordinate with specialists, and ensure continuity of care.

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is a 220-bed teaching hospital located in a residential neighborhood directly on the border of northern Brooklyn and Western Queens. We serve a variety of cultural and ethnic communities. As a Hospitalist Physician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality inpatient care at our institution.

The Hospitalist will be responsible for managing patient health conditions, coordinating with other healthcare professionals, and providing patient consultations.

Our ideal candidate is knowledgeable about internal medicine, can handle acute medical conditions, and has strong expertise in performing a variety of medical procedures.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients to assess their medical condition and to establish treatment protocols
  • Develop and manage treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Perform medical procedures as needed
  • Coordinate and oversee patient care in the hospital, including specialists and ancillary staff
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatments accordingly
  • Communicating with patients and families about conditions and care plans
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records
  • Participating in hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare laws and hospital policies

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or foreign equivalent
  • Completion of post graduate medical training from a U.S. accredited residency program in Internal Medicine.
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in Internal Medicine
  • Current, unrestricted New York State license.
  • Must possess active Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration or be eligible for registration.
  • Must possess active Medicare/Medicaid Enrollment or be eligible to enroll.
  • Excellent communication, bedside manners and organizational skills
  • Comfortable with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and Microsoft Office
  • ACLS/BCLS certification
  • Experience in inpatient care (1–3 years preferred)
  • Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple patients effectively

Requirements

Candidates must hold an MD or DO degree with completion of a U.S. accredited residency in Internal Medicine and a current New York State license. Board eligibility or certification in Internal Medicine and active DEA registration are required.
