About the role

The RMA monitors medication adherence for behavioral health clients and performs clinical and administrative duties to support prescribing physicians. They also manage medication inventory, track prescription data, and provide patient education to improve treatment outcomes.

Job Description

Summary: The RMA is responsible for monitoring and reducing barriers to medication adherence for clients receiving behavioral health and psychiatric services. Performs clinical, administrative and clerical duties to ensure that physicians and advance practice nurses have accurate client prescribing histories to inform their prescribing decisions. Reviews prescription refill data and develops support strategies in collaboration with behavioral health team and client to help initiate and sustain medication adherence, improving client outcomes. The RMA will be trained in providing medical support to individuals impacted by a variety of behavioral health issues who are learning to manage aspects of their mental illness/substance abuse recovery.

Education

The candidate must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have completed an approved certification course for becoming a medical assistant and hold certification as a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Missouri.

Work

Experiences: Preferred prior work within the medical field as CNA, L1MA, or RMA and with populations experiencing behavioral health conditions in either a clinic or inpatient environments.

Responsibilities

Performs clerical duties as required for patient profiles, medication inventory control and tracking prescription refill data. Monitors clients’ drug prescriptions, utilizing prescription drug monitoring programs as available. Identifies medication resources available, assisting with financial aid applications, pre-authorizations, patient assistance programs, and potential support. Notifies prescribers when there are medication risks, gaps in treatment and develops patient centered interventions with behavioral health team. Administers medications within their scope as ordered by the prescribers. Provides medication education to clients. Provides UDS support to ensure treatment efficacy and decrease prescription diversion. Perform all other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Normal Office environment. Typical physical demands include prolonged sitting, frequent standing, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator, and other office equipment as needed. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and to work irregular hours and deal with irate individuals. TB test upon hire.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and possess a valid Registered or Certified Medical Assistant certification in Missouri. Prior experience in a medical or behavioral health setting is preferred.
