The Neurology Veterinary Assistant supports the neurology team by assisting with patient flow, consultations, and specialized procedures. They are responsible for providing nursing care, restraining patients, performing diagnostic tests, and maintaining accurate medical records.

Neurology Veterinary Assistant | $20–$26/hr South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) | Asheville, NC Full-Time | Tuesday–Friday | Four 10-Hour Shifts South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) is seeking a full-time Neurology Veterinary Assistant to join our growing Neurology team in Asheville, NC.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Veterinary Assistant who enjoys advanced patient care, specialty medicine, and working alongside board-certified specialists in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

You'll play an important role in supporting neurology patients while developing your skills in one of the region's premier specialty hospitals.

Schedule Full-Time Tuesday–Friday Four 10-hour shifts Schedule will transition to Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts as the Neurology service expands to Monday appointments

Responsibilities

Assist the Neurology team with daily patient flow and specialty appointments. Prepare exam rooms and assist veterinarians during neurology consultations and procedures. Provide nursing support for hospitalized neurology patients. Safely restrain patients for examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and procedures. Obtain and record patient vital signs. Assist with obtaining diagnostic radiographs. Perform in-house laboratory testing. Fill prescriptions according to hospital protocols. Maintain accurate patient records and support efficient workflow throughout the department. Follow OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards. Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and SAVES' One Team mentality in all interactions. Remain calm under pressure while adapting to changing patient care priorities. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Neurology service.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine required At least 1 year of specialty or emergency veterinary medicine experience preferred Experience with advanced patient handling and restraint Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced specialty environment Knowledge of Microsoft Office required Experience with EzyVet and SmartFlow preferred Ability to interpret medical instructions, estimates, discharge information, and hospital protocols Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations related to patient care Comfortable lifting and restraining animals weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance when appropriate Ability to work in a physically active hospital environment with frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting Bilingual or multilingual communication skills are a plus Fluent English speaking and reading skills required About the Hospital Since opening in 2009, South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) has been dedicated to providing advanced emergency and specialty veterinary care while fostering a culture built on compassion, collaboration, and clinical excellence. Requirements
