About the role

The EEG Technician performs high-quality neurodiagnostic tests on pediatric and adult patients and assists with patient care, scheduling, and health information management. They are also responsible for maintaining equipment, ensuring safety standards, and facilitating accurate charge capture and data reporting.

Type

  • This is a full-time position, days and hours of work are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5p.m.
  • Summary/Objective: Responsible for completing electroencephalograms and video electroencephalograms and assisting with related patient care, such as monitoring and scheduling.

  • Functions: Performs high quality neurodiagnostic tests on pediatric and adult patients according to department policy and in accordance with standards of practice. Gathers pertinent medical history to aid neurologist in the interpretation of data gathered during the testing. Prepares patient for diagnostic exam by providing education/instruction at a level that is easily understood. Performs and records electroencephalography (EEG) and video electroencephalography (VEEG). Coordinates schedules to assure timely completion of tests. Assists with the management of health information. Assists providers in the timely reporting of test results by proofreading and correcting errors prior to physician review. Takes appropriate actions to communicate with providers and expedite test result reporting. Utilizes processes that facilitate charge capture and charge reconciliation of the procedure charges and professional fees. Utilizes processes that accurately record departmental statistical data. Maintains adequate supply levels by monitoring, ordering and restocking supplies Communicate office supply inventory with Office Manager. Responsible for cleaning/maintaining equipment, initiates maintenance repairs. Establishes safety check system for all EEG equipment, including outreach site. Other duties, as assigned.

Travel

50%: Requires frequent travel between JWM offices by personal vehicle. Must have valid driver's license and current auto insurance. Standard mileage reimbursement provided by the Organization. The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.

Education

High school diploma or GED. Valid EEG Tech Registration Required.

Experience

Minimum of 1 year of EEG/VEEG technical experience required.

Knowledge

Knowledge of electroencephalogram technology, principles, and method. Knowledge of how to use EEG and related equipment. Knowledge of customer service principles.

Knowledge of scheduling and prior-authorizing testing

Skills: Skill in EEG/VEEG concepts through effective assistance to care team. Skill in using EEG/VEEG equipment.

Skill in demonstrating patient services philosophy

Abilities: Ability to interact effectively with physicians, staff and patients. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively. Ability to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.

Environment/Working Conditions

This job operates in a clinical office setting and requires frequent travel to JWM local offices. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. There may be frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions.

Physical

Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is role requires one to sit, stand and walk for 8-9 hours per day. This would require the ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs., open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. This role requires full range of motion, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
