The Physician Office Assistant prepares patients for examinations and assists physicians with medical procedures, minor surgeries, and laboratory tasks. They are also responsible for administrative duties such as bookkeeping, coding, and filing insurance claims.
Overview The Physician Office Assistant performs basic medical procedures to assist physician in evaluation and treatment of patients.
Prepare patient for examination and treatment. Take vital signs, height, weight, etc May assist in minor surgery: clean and prep op-site. Set up sterile trays and assist in sterile procedures. Sterilize and wrap surgical instruments. Obtain lab specimens, perform routine lab procedures, and operate lab equipment (autoclave, microscope centrifuge, and hemogloinometer) Perform EKG’s and basic Arrhythmia recognition Change sterile dressings, remove sutures and skin clips. Administer injections, General office bookkeeping, coding and filing insurance claims. Practice Universal precautions. Perform other related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma and Graduate of Medical Assistant Training Program. Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute accurately. Three (3) to six (6) months on-the-job training as required to attain proficiency of assigned duties and/or responsibilities.
Candidates must hold a High School Diploma and have graduated from a Medical Assistant Training Program. Proficiency in typing at least 30 words per minute is required.
