About the role

The ultrasonographer is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound exams, including abdominal, obstetric, and vascular scans, while ensuring high-quality imaging and patient safety. They must also maintain accurate patient records, collaborate with clinical staff, and adhere to departmental protocols and HIPAA standards.

Responsible for performing all diagnostic ultrasound exams as ordered by primary care physicians using proper technique and professional, interpersonal skills. Technologists will be expected to follow, uphold, and have input into establishing protocols, standards, and practices. Flexibility in staff and patient scheduling is required. Technologists uphold the mission and values of InterMed and participate in performance improvement activities.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program

Experience

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and sonographic principles
  • Excellent communication and patient‑care skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently

License/Certifications

ARDMS certification required:

Candidates with less than 5 years of experience must be certified in RVT, OB/GYN, and Abdomen, or obtain certification within 1 year of hire.

Candidates with 5 years of experience or more must be certified in Abdomen or OB/GYN and must be certified in RVT or obtain certification within 1 year of hire.

Certification in Breast is preferred.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma and completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. ARDMS certification is required, with specific sub-specialty requirements based on years of experience.
