About the role

The Patient Care Tech provides direct assistance to patients according to their plan of care and collects vital patient data for nursing staff. They also perform technical procedures, maintain a safe environment, and assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.

Here’s What You Need H.S.

Diploma or Equivalent Required No experience required One year experience is preferred PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program.

Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire.

Upon Hire Required Or EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required Or Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required Or One year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification.

Upon Hire Required And BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required And CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training 90 Days Required Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.

Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

What You Will Do CARE OF PATIENT/TECHNICAL SKILLS: Provides assistance to patients according to plan of care.

Collects patient data, identifies and reports significant findings to nurses.

Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.

Provides and revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences.

Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.

Take action to reduce or eliminate patient risk.

Enter orders into computer or manual system if applicable.

Documents accurately and appropriately.

In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.

In collaboration/consultation with nurses, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.

Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and hold a valid certification such as CNA, EMT, or equivalent military medical training. Additionally, applicants are required to obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
