Experience and education

Required Education High School Diploma or equivalent Experience 2 years of related laboratory experience Related college laboratory classes may be accepted in lieu of experience. Preferred Education Some College

  • JOB DUTIES Handle and process specimens according to departmental protocols.
  • Peform the following duties: specimen management (receive specimens from phlebotomists and nursing floors); specimen accession into LIS; prepare specimens for testing; basic technical tasks (placing samples in automated analyzer, streak culture plates, etc.); submit specimens to testing department; store and manage specimens according to retention protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and easy-to-use specimen storage systems.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate patient identification and confidentiality for all samples in accordance with departmental protocol.
  • Ensure specimens sent to reference laboratories are submitted to referral department in a timely manner.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and provide verified test result information per the LIS system.
  • Establish priorities and organize activities to achieve optimum and efficient results.
  • Complete assigned functions in appropriate time intervals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
