Practice for this role

About the role

The RN provides professional nursing care to hemodynamically unstable patients in the Medical ICU by assessing, planning, and implementing patient-centered care. They also participate in multidisciplinary rounds and respond to hospital-wide rapid response calls and codes.

About the unit We are a 14 bed Medical ICU that cares for patients who are hemodynamically unstable and require continuous medication infusions, close monitoring and intensive nursing care.

We are largely a cardiac unit that manages our own Balloon Pumps, Impella’s and occasionally Pulmonary Artery Catheters.

The RN’s are trained to do CRRT and have extensive experience in proning those patients with ARDS.

Our typical patient ratio is usually 2:1 for all ICU patients and if they are unstable and critical, then typically 1:1.

There are times where we hold on to step-down patients and at times, we may group them at 3:1.

Our charge nurses and Shift Leads typically respond to all Rapid Response Calls throughout the hospital and are also responsible for all Codes as well.

We have great quality outcomes and are committed to quality care that we provide our patients.

Our Intensivists are very involved in the unit and rely on nursing input during our multidisciplinary rounds.

We typically have a great retention rate here on the unit and have large amounts of experience between all of our nurses.

3ICU is known for their outstanding teamwork, welcoming environment, and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

We are proud of the outstanding quality and patient outcomes the team strives to achieve for all patients.
