The RN Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of care for pediatric patients requiring ventricular assist devices. This role ensures continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings while promoting patient safety, family education, and exceptional clinical outcomes. Key Responsibilities Coordinate comprehensive care for pediatric patients receiving ventricular assist devices throughout their treatment journey. Serve as the primary nursing contact for patients, families, and referring providers. Collaborate with cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, advanced practice providers, intensivists, and multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans. Coordinate admissions, procedures, outpatient follow-up appointments, diagnostic testing, and transitions of care. Provide patient and family education regarding VAD management, medications, emergency preparedness, home care, and lifestyle considerations. Monitor patient progress, recognize changes in clinical status, and facilitate timely interventions. Participate in inpatient rounds, multidisciplinary conferences, and quality improvement initiatives. Support clinical program development through education, policy implementation, and evidence-based practice. Participate in overnight and weekend on-call coverage to provide clinical support for patients and families.
Required Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Ohio. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or obtained within organizational guidelines. Minimum of five years of recent pediatric cardiac, critical care, or related nursing experience. Strong assessment, communication, organization, and care coordination skills. Preferred Experience caring for pediatric patients with heart failure, ventricular assist devices, ECMO, cardiac transplant, or congenital heart disease.
