The Health Care Assistant provides technical patient care services, including monitoring vital signs and assisting with activities of daily living. They also provide clerical support by maintaining patient charts, directing calls, and ensuring a safe and orderly unit environment.
Overview Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff the Health Care Assistant(HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally assists staff, physicians, visitors and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed. Patient Care activities include vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge. Clerical support includes directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files and secretarial supply levels and being responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
Education: HS/GED required. Education preferred: Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred License, Certification and/or Registration: BCLS is required by the conclusion of orientation.
