About the role

The Pharmacy Technician III provides comprehensive pharmacy services, including sterile and chemotherapy medication compounding, within complex healthcare environments like intensive care units. They also coordinate medication delivery, maintain regulatory standards, and facilitate the training of other pharmacy technicians.

Job Overview

Under the direction of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician III is responsible for day-to-day comprehensive pharmacy technician services in a complex healthcare environment. This may include dose dispensing technology and sterile medication compounding, and chemotherapy medication compounding. The Pharmacy Technician III will work in advanced technical areas, such as satellite operating room and intensive care unit, as well as be efficient in tech check tech and code response practices. The Pharmacy Technician III will function as a subject matter expert in at least two advanced technical areas and can skillfully use interpersonal, customer service, problem solving and collaboration skills to support and influence operational objectives.

Responsibilities

Partner with care providers and pharmacists to ensure that patient receives the needed medication accurately, safely, in accordance with all legal requirements and policies and in a professional and timely manner. Under the direction of the pharmacist, receive prescription/orders from electronic medical record, process manually or using the appropriate computer system and protocols, prepare drug therapy and/or dispense medication in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with all legal, regulatory agency and Fairview requirements. Maintain the IV hoods or isolators, clean room, ante room according to manufacturer’s specifications and regulatory requirements as applicable. Coordinate ordering, delivery of medications, supplies and equipment to patients and clinical areas as requested. Participate, coordinate or lead regulatory, quality assurance and process improvement activities and other projects as assigned. Facilitate the training of pharmacy technicians. Other responsibilities as assigned including but not limited to: data collection, reporting, process improvement and maintenance of patient education materials.

Required Qualifications 1 year of pharmacy technician experience in a complex healthcare environment Eligible to become registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the MN State Board of Pharmacy and eligible to become certified with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Nationally certified or become certified within 18 months of employment. Certifying exams must have National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation, with examples including, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam and The Exam for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT)
