About the role

The Research Technologist performs electron microscopy technical services, including tissue processing, embedding, and sectioning for clinical and research samples. They are also responsible for operating laboratory instrumentation, maintaining regulatory-compliant documentation, and assisting in the identification of ultrastructural indicators of disease.

The Electron Microscopy Core is a full-service laboratory providing specialized technical support to physicians, scientists, and researchers both within and outside Mayo Clinic We are seeking motivated technologists with a background in health sciences to join our team.

The EM Research Technologist provides electron microscopy technical services in support of clinical diagnostic testing and a diverse range of research laboratories.

This role involves working with clinical/patient tissue specimens as well as samples submitted by research investigators.

The position offers hands-on experience in a highly specialized laboratory environment with opportunities for technical growth and professional development.

Key Responsibilities Our foundation-building position includes, but is not limited to: Tissue processing, embedding, and ultrathin sectioning Working safely with chemicals and biohazardous materials Operating and assisting in the maintenance of specialized laboratory instrumentation Verifying the accuracy of laboratory records and maintaining thorough, regulatory-compliant documentation Training will be provided for required laboratory procedures.

Additional opportunities may include examining tissues using the electron microscope to identify ultrastructural indicators of disease and reporting to pathologists, researchers, and laboratory personnel.

Expanded responsibilities and advancement opportunities are available based on individual performance, initiative, skill development, and organizational needs.

Qualifications

Requires bachelor's degree in biology or other relevant life science. Knowledge of basic histology is preferred. Experience in electron microscopy is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working in a laboratory setting and in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The candidate should be highly organized, able to multitask, and comfortable working closely with others. The applicant will be expected to acquire technical competency in specific laboratory procedures and consistently follow established laboratory protocols per regulatory requirements. A commitment of three or more years is preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate: A strong work ethic and curiosity Excellent recordkeeping, writing, and communication skills Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities Ability to work effectively with individuals both within and outside the group Solid understanding of laboratory techniques, equipment, and safety practices Ability to organize and perform laboratory procedures independently and as part of a team Experience with basic data analysis Demonstrated writing skills Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Must be U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee. Also, Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 OPT STEM extension program. During the selection process you may participate in an OnDemand (pre-recorded) interview that you can complete at your convenience. You will have the opportunity to re-record your answer to each question – Mayo Clinic will only see the final recording. Requirements

Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in biology or a relevant life science. Experience in electron microscopy and knowledge of basic histology are highly desirable, along with strong organizational and communication skills.
