The Grossing Technician performs the preparation, gross description, and dissection of human tissue specimens under the supervision of a pathologist. They are responsible for ensuring accurate specimen accessioning, maintaining laboratory equipment, and managing biological waste.
Summary/Objective
The Grossing Technician provides anatomic pathology services under the direction and supervision of a Board Certified, licensed medical doctor (Pathologist). Grossing Technician is required to gross and dictate gastrointestinal biopsies, small biopsies (including cores), prostate cores, and any small tissue that does not require dissection. Grossing Technicians will interact with pathologists in same manner that physicians' assistants carry out their duties under the direction of physicians in surgical and medical practices.
The Grossing Technicians serves as the eyes of the pathologist and is often the initial (and sometimes only) individual to look at the specimen when it arrives from the operating room, clinic and/or physician's office. Grossing Technician's contribute to the overall efficiency of the laboratory or pathology practice in a cost effective manner by performing a variety of tasks, consisting primarily of gross examination of surgical pathology specimens.

Essential Functions
Preparation, gross description, dictation and dissection of human tissue.
Select representative sections for embedding, staining and microscopic evaluation.
Ensures appropriate specimen accessioning.
Photograph pertinent gross specimens as needed.
Retrieve the patient's medical chart and other pertinent data for review with the attending pathologist.
Confer with the attending pathologist to identify any special techniques or procedures to be utilized.
Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment.
Provision of adequate supplies.
Cleaning of grossing stations.
Disposal of biological and administrative waste.
Solve any discrepancies or other issues that may arise.
Job Requirements and Skills
Associates of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related field
Basic knowledge of human anatomy, macro surgical techniques, and general laboratory skills preferred
Demonstrated ability to obtain and prepare tissue for evaluation and to provide assistance to pathologists in a timely and quality manner.
Requirements

The compensation range is $52,000 - $85,000 annually. Final salary offer subject to multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise, geographic location of the role, and current market data.
