About the role

The Cath Lab Technologist performs diagnostic and interventional procedures while ensuring patient safety and minimizing radiation exposure. They act as a clinical agent to assist physicians by providing pertinent patient information and maintaining sterile standards.

Job Description

The RT(R), with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. The RT(R) functions under his or her own license and assumes accountability and responsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the standards of practice. The RT(R) demonstrates responsibility for continued competence in practice, and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning. SHIFT AND SCHEDULE Full Time, Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm, with Call ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Practices technology founded upon theoretical knowledge and concepts, uses equipment and accessories consistent with the purposes for which they were designed, and employs procedures and techniques appropriately Assesses situations; exercises care, discretion, and judgment; assumes responsibility for professional decisions; and acts in the best interest of the patient. Acts as an agent through observation and communication to obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient and recognizes that interpretation and diagnosis are outside the scope of practice for the profession. The radiologic technologist uses equipment and accessories, employs techniques and procedures, performs services in accordance with an accepted standard of practice, and demonstrates expertise in minimizing radiation exposure to the patient, self, and other members of the healthcare team. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Current State of Texas License as a Radiology Technologist. ARRT registered or eligible RT(R) to obtain or actively pursue the CV registry while employed, preferred Cath Lab Technologist will follow the approved career ladder. See Radiology Career Ladder Chart 2 years of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist working in the Cath Lab, preferred Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred Required to complete six (6) hours of hospital provided continuing education upon hire and annually for Advanced Sterile Processing Certification. Education will focus on the standards of practice in instrument decontamination, transportation, and reprocessing. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The individual must be able to: Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current State of Texas Radiology Technologist license and be ARRT registered or eligible. Two years of experience in a Cath Lab setting is preferred, along with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
