The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive clinical and research support for pediatric oncology patients, focusing on survivorship care and treatment management. They collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop care plans, perform advanced procedures, and educate patients and families.
We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner who will provide outpatient clinical and research support to the Oncology clinical practice. Works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary health team and is responsible for providing comprehensive and age-appropriate care to both well and ill patients. Educates patients and families and intervenes in acute or chronic illness. The NP will have a case load of patients for whom they are the primary provider in the pediatric oncology program with support from faculty in the division of pediatric oncology, the children’s center subspecialities and adult oncology as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive survivorship assessments for patients who have completed cancer treatment. Develop and implement individualized survivorship care plans, addressing health maintenance, surveillance for recurrence, and management of treatment-related effects. Offer counseling and support for patients dealing with the emotional and psychological aspects of survivorship. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care, including referrals to specialists as needed. Educate patients and families about health promotion, disease prevention, and lifestyle modifications to enhance quality of life. Stay current on the latest research and advancements in cancer survivorship and attend relevant conferences. Facilitate support groups and educational workshops for cancer survivors and their families. Document patient interactions and maintain accurate medical records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Patient Care Provides comprehensive, age appropriate, and longitudinal survivorship care to patients as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
Obtains patient history; Performs patient care and physical examinations; Attends out-patient clinics and assists with patient management Prepares and provides treatment summaries, care plans and educational information to childhood cancer survivors in accordance with the COG guidelines (or similar survivorship guidelines).
Delivers direct clinical care to survivors according to established guidelines for monitoring late effects.
Including ordering labs and screening procedures (examples echocardiogram, pulmonary function tests, DEXA scans); evaluating results and referring to subspecialities for abnormal findings.
Under the direction of pediatric oncology specialties will screen for recurrence of primary disease (e.g. imaging) and consult with specialty provider for any abnormal results.
Assist in coordination of patient care for survivorship issues within Johns Hopkins as well as external institutions.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a Master's Degree in Nursing and be a licensed, certified Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland. Current CPR certification and the ability to maintain professional licensure throughout employment are required.

Prescribes Medications Prescribes medications, including oral, parenteral, intramuscular, or subcutaneous drugs. Prescribes Schedule 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4,5 drugs under the guidelines of the Maryland Nurse Practice Act and the DEA.
Research Coordination Will work with specific protocols to ensure that all protocol driven tests, examinations, and procedures are ordered, performed and evaluated and data is retrieved, entered on appropriate forms. Coordinates scheduling, orders appropriate tests, evaluates results, records data, performs patient evaluations and participates in care of patients on specific protocols regarding specific disease entities and treatment. Works in collaboration with the Principal Investigators of specific protocols to ensure the completeness of protocol requirements.
Educational Responsibilities Develops expertise and expands knowledge in specific areas and shares that knowledge and expertise with colleagues as consultant in planning care for patients.
Participates in rounds and meetings for consultation.
Serve as resource for cancer survivorship care across JHH.
Provide educational opportunities to residents and fellows on cancer survivorship issue.
Supervises and evaluates student/patient interactions in an academic setting.
Assumes responsibility for patient care as provided by the student.
Performs oncology related procedures, such as bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, lumbar puncture, bone marrow harvest, and other procedures as called upon within the scope of practice.
Fiscal responsibility Assumes fiscal responsibility with working knowledge of evidence based medical model.
Effectively uses resources of the patient and the institution.
Is aware of and adheres to specific capitations and limitations of the patient’s insurances while organizing and optimizing individualized care based on the disease state and restraints imposed by the HMO or insurances.
Utilizes referrals to Home Health in order to provide optimum care in the appropriate setting.
Has knowledge of and utilizes all available resources in the event that the patient’s resources are limited or unavailable in order to provide medical care and social well-being.
Refers Works in collaboration with the physician and realizes and is able to detect those deviations from normalcy or from established protocols which require consultation and/or referral to appropriate specialty areas including physicians, nutrition, psycho-social, and other resources.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Current CPR certification required.
