The Sterile Processing Technician reports to the Manager of Sterile Processing. Under general supervision of the department manager, shift supervisor or designee, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements.
Must have certification from IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management). If not certified upon hire, will have one year to obtain certification.
High School Diploma or GED, and certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution). Minimum of one (1) year of sterile processing experience, preferably in a hospital or surgical setting. Successful completion of the department’s internal written and practical exam, as well as meeting required performance and productivity standards, is required to attain and maintain Sterile Processing II status.
