Job Requisition ID: R00050371 Job Category: Clinician Organization: SOM-Surgery-Perfusion Location/s: Main Campus Jackson Job Title: Perfusionist SOM-Surgery Job Summary: TO OPERATE EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION AND AUTOTRANSFUSION EQUIPMENT DURING ANY MEDICAL PROCEDURE IN WHICH IT IS NECESSARY TO ARTIFICIALLY SUPPORT OR TEMPORARILY REPLACE A PATIENT'S CIRCULATORY OR RESPIRATORY FUNCTIONS.

Education & experience must be certified by the american board of cardiovascular perfusion, or (If new graduate) certification by the american board of cardiovascular perfusion within 18 months of hire.

Certification by the american board of cardiovascular perfusion, or (If new graduate) certification by the american board of cardiovascular perfusion within 18 months of hire. ​ knowledge, skills & abilities knowledge of equipment available to perform extracorporeal circulation functions and techniques. Skill in operating extracorporeal circulation and autotransfusion equipment. Knowledge of implantable ventricular assist device equipment available. Skill in set up/Operation of implantable ventricular assist device equipment. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skill to interact with physicians, patients, and other staff. Ability to react calmly in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

Monitors the altered circulatory process, initiates appropriate action when abnormalities arise, and keeps surgeon and other personnel fully informed. Ensures the sterility and integrity of packaging of disposable equipment used as well as the correct setup and breakdown of disposable and non-Disposable and sterile and non-Sterile equipment. Monitors cell saver and operates the heart-Lung machine, blood gas analysis machine, clotting time/Heparin analyzer, and cardiac-Assist devices. Records relevant perfusion information during surgery; analyzes and maintains records after surgery. Performs quality control/Preventive maintenance to ensure accuracy and longevity of equipment. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies. Conducts periodic in-Service training and research activities. Physical and Environmental Demands Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, occasional sitting, constant standing, frequent twisting, and constant walking.
