Responsibilities span the full continuum of oncology care, encompassing prevention, screening, patient management, and research.
Depending on the needs of the practice, this role may serve in various capacities, including direct patient caregiver, healthcare consultant, patient educator, administrator, or researcher.
The APP is expected to maintain compliance with OSHA and all applicable regulatory standards while upholding the US Oncology Compliance Program, including its Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for patients Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response and prescribes therapies as indicated Performs procedures with minimal supervision Assesses patient/family needs and provides education Promotes wellness and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs Often incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice Solid knowledge of reimbursement procedures and documentation requirements. Completes patient charge capture and medical record documentation in a timely fashion Likely to provide case management for patients and their families Sometimes serves as a resource for nursing staff by providing information being studied in clinical trials May provide palliative care for the patient and their families as needed May promote/provide staff education May mentor new advanced practice providers May precept APP students Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner
Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program This position typically requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, preferably in Oncology RN state licensure and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner. AOCNP preferred Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
Physician
Assistant: Current state license as a Physician Assistant in practicing state. Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) certification. This position typically requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing Physician Assistant, preferably in Oncology. Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
