About the role

  • Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU): Advanced cardiac support including open-heart surgery recovery and ECMO therapy.

Responsibilities

Patient Care: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the CVICU/CTICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and implementing physician orders. Critical Thinking: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Demonstrate critical thinking skills in managing complex medical and surgical conditions. Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.

Monitoring

Utilize advanced monitoring equipment to assess and interpret cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic parameters, and other relevant data. Respond promptly to changes in patient status.

Patient and

Family

Education: Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families regarding postoperative care, medications, and potential complications. Offer emotional support and guidance during the recovery process.

Documentation

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

Quality

Improvement: Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and contribute to the continuous improvement of nursing practices within the CVICU/CTICU. Qualifications

Required

  • Current RN license in the District of Columbia (or eligible) BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) Minimum of 1 year or 3 years of experience in acute care setting
