About the role

The Unit Coordinator manages clerical functions for the nursing unit and assists in the direct care and management of patients. Responsibilities include conducting chart audits, preparing admission charts, and facilitating unit programming for patient therapy and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults.
  • We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems.
  • As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Unit Coordinator.
  • The Unit Coordinator at Forest View Hospital manages the clerical functions of the nursing unit necessary to provide patient care.
  • Essential Job Requirements: Serving as unit receptionist, answering phone calls, directing visitors and professionals, as needed.
  • Trained as a Mental Health/Behavioral Technician, making observation rounds and providing patient care.
  • Monitors status of laboratory and other diagnostic tests ordered.
  • Conducts chart audits daily to ensure presence of necessary documentation.
  • Responsible for preparing charts for admissions.
  • Responsible for distributing all discharge paperwork to community providers and referring agencies.
  • Responsible for filing paperwork, as needed.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must possess experience and knowledge of interventional and administrative duties necessary to support nursing and patient care on assigned unit.
  • Assists in the direct care and management of patients with medical and behavioral issues as directed by the treatment team.
  • Assists with unit programming to facilitate the carryover of therapy issues, leisure activities, and activities of daily living for patients on the unit.
  • Must possess knowledge of dual diagnosis/chemical dependency/mental health patients; age-specific patient issues, limit setting and behavior management, crisis prevention and intervention techniques; knowledge and comprehension of regulatory agency standards (DOH, DPW, CMS, Joint Commission, etc.); staff development procedures and requirements.
  • Ability to communicate orally, telephonically, and in writing; Working knowledge of computer systems and various software.
  • Must maintain certification CPR, Verbal De-Escalation, and Handle With Care.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to be a team player.
  • Good documentation, organization and time management skills are necessary.
  • Must be effective in decision-making and problem solving.

High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year experience working with a psychiatric patient population and previous secretarial experience preferred. Requirements
