About the role

The Direct Support Professional provides direct care, training, and assistance with daily living activities to individuals with developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include monitoring consumer safety, performing household tasks, and facilitating community integration.

Direct Support Professional II LOCATION: Bartlett, TN 38134 STATUS: Part-Time, Hourly PROGRAM: Memphis Developmental Disabilities Services REPORTS TO: Home Manager INTRODUCTION: Volunteers of America Mid-States (VOA) is a non-profit organization spanning four states that creates positive change in the lives of individuals and communities through a ministry of service. We provide housing for families, veterans, and low-income seniors. We provide care and support for individuals with developmental disabilities, healing accountability that brings people together with restorative justice, and free HIV testing and education. When Volunteers of America was founded in 1896, "volunteer" referred to anyone who served others as a vocation through a commitment to a mission. Today, we are still staffed by paid, mission-driven professionals working to create positive change and build thriving communities. WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE FOR THIS ROLE: High School diploma or general equivalency diploma preferred, or commensurate skills. Demonstrate the ability to adequately read, write and understand the English language.

Responsibilities

1. Monitor the comfort and safety of consumers’ served, while ensuring that the medical, nutritional, and personal care needs are being met. 2. Interact with consumers in an emotionally supportive and therapeutic manner, and practice effective techniques for reinforcing consumers’ behaviors. 3. Provide transportation and assist consumers with integration into the community by accompanying them to social and other activities of choice. 4. Perform general housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping, and laundry duties. 5. Complete assigned cleaning tasks and general maintenance on a routine basis in order to maintain a neat and clean environment. 6. Participate in all required on-going training programs and attend all mandatory staff meetings. 7. Performs all duties as assigned by supervisor. Requirements
