The Surgical Technologist assists with the preparation, processing, and maintenance of surgical supplies and equipment. They serve as an active member of the surgical team during operative procedures to ensure high-quality patient care.

UCSF Stanyan Operating Room (OR) consists of 8 surgical suites for inpatient and outpatient surgeries.

Services include, but are not limited to: Orthopedics, General, Ophthalmology, Plastics, Pain Service, General Surgery, Vascular, Urology, and Podiatry.

All patient care team members are responsible for meeting patient needs, demonstrating willingness to learn new skills, and fostering a harmonious work environment in which high-quality patient care and customer service are consistently provided.

Team members promote cooperative working relationships with each other, physicians, other disciplines, and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, demonstrating honesty and respect, showing sensitivity to cultural differences, and expressing and accepting feedback professionally.

Responsibilities

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Identify the functions or tasks that employees in the job perform. The essential functions should state the purpose of the work and the results to be accomplished, rather than how the function is performed. The functions should add up to 100%. % of time Essential Function (Yes/No) Key Responsibilities (To be completed by Supervisor) 8.3 Y Preparing Operating Rooms by ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and functioning properly. 8.3 Y Perform surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving using aseptic technique. 8.3 Y Set up and maintain sterile field throughout surgical procedures. 8.3 Y Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and draping according to established protocols. 8.3 Y Pass instruments, sutures, sponges, and other supplies to the surgeon during procedures. 8.3 Y Anticipate the need of the surgeon and surgical team to promote efficient workflow. 8.3 Y Perform accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts in collaboration with the circulating nurse. 8.3 Y Handle surgical specimens according to facility policy. 8.3 Y Assist with application of dressings and transfer of patients following procedures. 8.3 Y Clean, inspect, and prepare instruments for decontamination and sterilization. 8.3 Y Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly. 8.3 Y Adhere to infection prevention standards, safety regulations, and faciltiy policies. 100% (To update total %, enter the amount of time in whole numbers (without the % symbol - e.g., 15, 20) then highlight the total sum (e.g., 1%) at the bottom of the column and press F9. Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be a graduate of a surgical technologist training program. A current American Heart Association CPR certification for healthcare providers is required.
