About the role

The Program Therapist is responsible for providing clinical therapeutic services to patients at Butler Hospital. They will engage in patient care and support the hospital's mission of delivering high-quality, integrated health care services.

Job Summary

Under direct supervision of the Program Manager/Director, and clinical leads, in addition to general supervision by the Unit Chief when applicable, evaluates, diagnoses and treats a wide range of psychological symptoms, applying individual and group evidence-based interventions in order to assist patients and their families in managing symptoms in a healthy way to improve overall functioning

Duties & Responsibilities

Completes Initial Psychiatric evaluations, including obtaining current symptoms and relevant history, psychosocial stressors, initial working/treatment diagnosis and formulation as assigned by leadership Develops individualized treatment plans specific to each patient Provides individual and group therapy with evidence-based therapeutic interventions Facilitates psychotherapy and psychoeducation/skill groups per schedule and leadership request Collaborates with family and conducts family meetings as needed/indicated Actively monitors the course of treatment and clinical progress of patients Works with social service clinician to ensure clinical documentation supports utilization review needs Remains fluent with available community resources to make recommendations to the social service clinician regarding specific patient aftercare needs Collaboration of care with outpatient providers to gather their perspective and to share our patient formulations. Provides any follow-up recommendations to support post discharge continued improvement including documenting a clear and concise treatment course at the end of a patient’s stay Maintains the privacy of patients and holds in confidence all information obtained in the course of professional service. Participates in evidence based quantitative monitoring of symptoms and progress with hospital selected tools of measurement Participates in quality assurance projects for the program as assigned by leadership Provides training and supervision for students from various schools in the skills of assessment, treatment planning, individual and group therapy and participates in student evaluations as required by the school Updates attending physicians of the patients’ level of acuity - giving special attention to management of risk factors and emergencies Advocates for the patient’s needs within the department and with outside agencies as needed Documents initial evaluations, individual therapy notes, group therapy notes, treatment plan, outcome monitoring, discharge summary/treatment course, generic notes, etc. in accordance with all hospital standards and time of entry requirements Attends all staff meetings and unit huddles as directed by leadership Maintains computer skills necessary to complete all work Works with the unit leadership to ensure the environment of care remains safe and in line with joint commission standards Completes all Healthstream training modules assigned by due date Keeps independent licensure in good standing Attends any trainings designated necessary to work as a therapist in the hospital Performs other duties as assigned by leadership

Requirements

  • Masters degree required.
  • Independent licensure preferred.
  • Must be working towards licensure and eligible in state of RI.
  • Experience in a psychiatric setting is required.
  • Training and experience in individual and group therapy required.
  • Experience in delivering CBT/DBT/ACT framework preferred, experience in specialty areas (Addictions, OCD, LGBTQ, Trauma, Adolescent, Young Adult etc.) preferred depending on program placement.
  • Continuing education/in-services in specialty areas will be required.
  • Experience in risk assessment preferred.
  • Iindependent license required (or working towards actively).
  • Addictions LCDP without Master’s is permissible Active and qualified students considered if experience and skill level permits Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and evidence-based therapies, including CBT, DBT, and ACT Experience in psychiatric settings and in both individual and group therapy Skill in evaluations, treatment planning, and clinical documentation Ability to collaborate with families, providers, and interdisciplinary teams Proficiency in EHR systems and hospital documentation standards Ability to assess risk and manage patient acuity Ability to supervise students and manage multiple priorities Interest in specialty areas such as trauma, addictions, and LGBTQ+ care preferred
