  • Responsibilities: Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, evaluates & treats patients using standard occupational therapy procedures. Responsible for treating the complex/specialty cases for assigned site(s). Evaluates patient's motor and neurological capabilities and documents findings. Directs, plans, organizes and executes occupational therapy programs for patients. Exercises professional judgment in selection of treatment media, consistent with attending physician's prescriptions. Implements programs designed to enhance motor, sensory, cognitive and interpersonal skills of the patient in order to promote patient independence and productivity. Works with attending physician in order to establish patient therapy goals that are consistent with physician's diagnosis. Prepares treatment plans consistent with therapy goals; provides group or individual therapy selecting from a variety of occupational therapy modalities. Documents patient treatments, initial evaluation, progress notes and discharge summaries in accordance with established departmental and service line policies and protocols. Provides staff mentoring and develops/implements educational in-services for staff. Attends interdisciplinary team conferences and various meetings to consult with other team members regarding patient treatment & program development. May oversee, instruct and evaluate occupational therapy assistants, aids, students and/or volunteers as assigned. Co-signs notes written by occupational therapy assistants, aids or students. Maintains professional expertise through workshops, lectures, in-services, conferences, etc. Assists in the implementation of programs & services to foster interdisciplinary approach and a service line system of care.

1.Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.

2.Three years of clinical experience in order to acquire skills for independent patient treatment.

3.Current license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Michigan.

4.

Initial certification with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

5.

Minimum of 60 points on the professional growth and development criteria .

Facility Description DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, Michigan’s first Level I Trauma Center, helped pioneer the evolution of emergency medicine and currently has one of the busiest and most well-equipped emergency departments anywhere.

The first and largest verified burn center in the state is at Receiving, and it is one of only 43 in the nation.

Receiving also offers the state’s leading 24/7 hyperbaric oxygen program, Metro Detroit’s first certified primary stroke center, and the nationally recognized and accredited DMC Rosa Parks Geriatric Center of Excellence.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy and possess a current Michigan license. A minimum of three years of clinical experience and NBCOT certification are required for this position.
